Parmigiani Fleurier is partnering with the world rowing federation (FISA) in supporting rowing scholars from international university rowing clubs.

The brand is committed to continuing working to ensure that today’s young talent is recognised, while sharing its values with future generations.

Since 2013, a prestigious prize has been awarded to university rowers: the Parmigiani Spirit Award. Launched and supported by Parmigiani Fleurier, this award of merit embodies the core values of rowing – teamwork, fair play and determination – and it rewards the achievements of a new generation of young rowers. Each year, it is awarded to the most deserving rower, someone who has not only achieved great success in his or her career, but has also inspired those around him or her to reach new heights.

The second Parmigiani Spirit Award was presented in 2014 to Franz Gravenhorst, who was studying for a PhD in applied electrical engineering at the Swiss Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ). åHe was presented with a Tonda 1950 Swiss Breitling replica watches, created entirely in-house by Parmigiani Fleurier, and a Filippi racing eight boat. A member of the Zurich University Sports Association (ASVZ), Franz Gravenhorst decided to offer the Prize Boat awarded to him by Parmigiani Fleurier not to a team, but to a club – the Belvoir rowing club, in fact – which currently has a shortage of boats available given its high number of rowers.

The nomination process for the Parmigiani Spirit Award 2015 opens on 29th April, when the boat is awarded, and its sponsors look forward to receiving the nominations for a third round of full-time rowing scholars who have demonstrated the core values of rowing in their everyday lives.

As in previous years, the panel of judges includes Jean-Marc Jacot, CEO of Parmigiani Fleurier, Jean-Christophe Rolland, President of the World Rowing Federation and Olympic gold medal winner and world rowing champion, Mahé Drysdale, along with Olympian and world rowing champion, Lenka Wech.

The Filippi racing eight boat and the Tonda 1950 replica Omega watches online presented to Franz Gravenhorst and his club for the second Parmigiani Spirit Award are both designed with simplicity at their core. Appearances can be deceptive, as their characteristic quest for harmony and efficiency is the fruit of patient, hard work. At the Filippi manufacture, as in the Parmigiani Fleurier workshops, the stages of documentation, research and analysis are the key steps in a long-winded process involving entire teams.

Behind the scenes of the Tonda 1950

“Simplicity” is often confused with “simple” when, in fact, they are opposing concepts. The design of the Tonda 1950 involves a complex and methodical process which involves achieving the ultimate in refinement, epitomising the brand’s visual identity. As with the racing boat, designing the best Omega replica  watches is an art of discipline and rigour. The Tonda 1950 is the fruit of this relentless quest for harmony.

Building a Filippi boat

Each boat created by Filippi starts with a study of existing boats, in terms of fluid dynamics, and a detailed analysis of their keels. This research process establishes the building directives for the new boat and marks the starting point from which it will be refined, based on the factors which will govern its usage (e.g. the size and weight of its athletes, level of competition for which it will be used). Each step in its creation is perfectly tailored to satisfy these specific conditions.

Once the unique castings and stamping are completed, the craftsmen insert the boat’s internal structure and perform delicate steps including assembly, painting, and stratification, along with finishing work. Any inaccuracy may create play or a gap in the woodwork, which would impair the boat’s overall performance. This is how Filippi sets itself apart from industrial production. The real added value of a Filippi is found in these details, which are anything but simple.
